The Heart of Texas Fair is in town! In all fairness, no pun intended, it’s been happening since last Friday but goes on until the 15th. Are you as excited as I am?! In all honesty, I’ve never been to a fair but I love the idea of gathering together with friends and family, checking out livestock shows, riding silly rides and eating all sorts of fried foods that I shouldn’t. I mean, who doesn’t love funnel cake?
In spirit of the fair, we’re all about fair foods today. Corn dog, turkey legs, cotton candy, funnel cakes, fried oreos – we’re all over it!
One thing that is so fun about fair foods is that they’re often so mobile. It seems that all those delicious treats are on a stick of some sort for easy transportation, because what’s more fun that eating and sight seeing at the same time!
I also love hearing about all the crazy ways people showcase food during state fairs. I’ve heard so many silly stories about fried butter and other items at the Texas State Fair in Dallas – what an adventure! It’s amazing what people will try to fry! If you’re heading up to Dallas for some fair fun, be sure to try some of their top food picks, which include fried bubblegum, deep fried salsa and deep friend autumn pie!
If you haven’t been able to make it out to the fair, Leah plans on recreating some classic foods to bring a little Texas fun into your home! Check back on Wednesday for our fair-inspired recipes.
