West Benefit Dinner

Last Thursday we had the pleasure of hosting a benefit dinner for someone close to us. One of our neighbors in Spice Village tragically lost everything in the West explosion, but we couldn’t be more thankful for her health and safety. In her honor, we decided to have a spaghetti dinner and donate the proceeds to her so she can begin rebuilding her life. We were overwhelmed with the out-pouring of love from the community and the donations we received. By the end of the night, in just four short hours, we had raised $300 to donate to her. We would like to thank everyone who came to our benefit dinner, but an extra special thank you goes out to the Waco Police Department for donating a banner for us to display in our cafe to show our support!

West BannerSpeaking of showing support, we do love our Baylor Tennis teams. They’ve continued to impress us throughout the season and we’ve enjoyed the relationships we’ve developed with coaches and players. In honor of the teams, we’ll be hosting another Tennis Tuesday tomorrow! If you go to the Selection Show tomorrow afternoon, we’ll be there supporting the teams and handing out $5 off dinner coupons! One lucky tennis fan will even be entered to win a free dinner at the Olive Branch! Go show your support for the teams tomorrow at 4 p.m. in the Stone Room of the Ferrell Center! Sic em Bears!

Tennis Tuesday

Here at the Olive Branch, we love to support our Baylor Bears. However, through the years we’ve grown especially fond of the tennis teams. Men’s Director of Tennis, Matt Knoll, has been with us from the start, visiting the cafe several times a month since we first opened with his twin sons. Now, we’ve gained a whole tennis family as Leah and Jonathan visit with Women’s coaches, Joey Scrivano and Alison Ojeda, weekly over lunch. To say we’re fans of the Baylor Tennis teams is an understatement. Though they may not know all the rules, Leah’s group of friends has really dedicated themselves to learning the game and supporting the teams. They’ve even begun tailgating before matches and playing on the weekends!

Tomorrow, we’ll be celebrating Tennis Tuesday in honor of the Men & Women’s Tennis Team’s defeats this weekend. They’re hard work has payed off and earned both teams a Big 12 Title! To celebrate, we’ll have special tennis cupcakes but, if you come in wearing a BU tennis shirt you’ll receive one for free!

Because our love for Baylor Tennis has become so strong, we hope to work closely with them in the upcoming year. Stay tuned to see what we have in store and we hope to see you out at the matches! This weekend we’ll be cheering them on from the cafe as both teams go on in the Big 12 Championship in Norman, Oklahoma. Sic ’em Bears!

Congratulations are in order…

There are so many exciting things happening in Waco and this past weekend we had even more reason to celebrate.

After battling through brackets and packing people’s guts with food, Vitek’s BBQ Gut Pack took the title as the Cooking Channel’s number one college eat! This is one of Leah’s good friend’s and personal favorites in town so we couldn’t be happier for them!

It was a great weekend for Baylor sports too! Women’s Tennis took down SFA after a doubleheader, defeating them 6-1. The 15th-ranked Men’s Tennis dominated the court as well this weekend as they blew past Texas Tech 6-1. What a great way to keep the Big 12 Tennis season going strong! We’ll be cheering them both on this week as they take on Oklahoma in a Big 12 showdown.

For those of you who have been experiencing football withdrawals, you don’t have to wait much longer! Baylor football took off this weekend with their spring scrimmage. The Bears had to fight through windy conditions, but still put on an impressive show. Junior quarterback Bryce Petty caught our eye with his near perfect performance and his positive attitude despite the bad weather. Needless to say, we can’t wait for the first home game on August 31!

So, we’d like to give one big CONGRATULATIONS to our Baylor Athletes and Vitek’s BBQ! What a great weekend it was!

Now, if you’re celebrating like us, you’ll need a delicious snack! Here’s a flashback to Leah’s recipe for Jalapeno Poppers. Follow this link for an easy recipe everyone loves! It’s a great treat to eat if you’re having people over, or if you’re going to watch the game at a friend’s house. Maybe you can make them this week for a Baylor Tennis watch party! Happy cooking!

Blueberry Pancake Day!

As a Baylor Bear still having the privilege to live in Waco, I get to attend a lot of BU sports! (Sic ‘em) Right now, basketball has my attention! This is surprising for several reasons. 1. I have always hated … Continue reading
